As much as our western culture in America has been able to transform mental healthcare, one thing is clear: There are simply not enough studies done on popular therapy approaches and women. This is especially so for women of color and other marginalized groups.
When you read about how certain therapy approaches are the “go to” or “standard of treatment”, you shouldn’t have to also wonder “for who?”. Therapy can be challenging enough to get started with so we have done the research for you.
I offer honest, real mental health counseling for women based on quality research done on women- not just men.
My role as a therapist is to hold space for you to navigate life’s challenges with compassion, care, and evidence-based approaches like EMDR, Somatic Experiencing and IFS.
A collaborative approach
Finding the right style of therapy is a lot like finding the right pair of jeans. What works great for some, might not be what works best for you.
In the consultation and intake appointments, I will learn a little bit about your history, what’s bringing you to therapy, what hasn’t worked for you so far, how your nervous system responds to certain situations, and individual preferences on style (cognitive vs somatic, solution focused vs long-term processing, EMDR vs IFS, etc).

Did you know that the #1 predictor of whether or not therapy will work is whether a therapist feels like a good “fit” for you? In other words, it’s more important that you have a strong relationship with your therapist or as if they really “get” you versus what approach they use or how many years of experience they have (although those are also very important, too).
Phone or online, this important time is designated for you to make sure that I’m a good match for you. You can relay a brief summary of what brings you in, if you’ve tried therapy before, what has worked/not worked so far, and any important factors you’d like me to know about you. This is also a good time to ask any questions about therapy with me that are important to you.

Intake session
Online, this time will be spent getting a basic history (can be done slowly over time, not all in one session), your assessment of your mental health, goals for therapy.

Online, this is designated for individuals to process and explore your mental health goals. Appointments are typically recommended weekly or bi-weekly at least for the first 3 months.

In addition to the going rate, I am an in-network provider for Aetna, Cigna and Carelon Insurance plans (soon to be in network with BCBS- Stay tuned!). Contact to find out if your specific plan is in network with us.
In addition to the private pay and insurance plans, I am currently also offering a sliding scale rate between $100-150 depending on availability.
